Did I enjoy this book? I first read the Twilight series 10 years ago. The first movie had already come out (I had not seen it), and I was preparing for a flight from Pittsburgh to China. If you’ve never been on that flight, it’s LONG. I brought this series on the plane with me to help pass the time. Did I mention that this was before I bought a Kindle and had to lug all 4 of those large books in my carry-on?? I loved these books and read them cover to cover in every available free minute I had. Then when I finished the fourth book, I immediately picked up the first book and read them all again. I loved the story, I loved the love triangle, I loved the weird vampire/werewolf thing. For the first 3 books, I was solidly Team Jacob, with a complete 180 to Team Edward for the 4th book. I was wholly unimpressed with the first movie (though this is a review of the books and not the movies, thankfully). I went to see each of the subsequent movies in the movie theater. Then I passed my books on to my sister to read and didn’t think much more about them. A few weeks ago, I needed to take a break from scary books and was looking for something comfortable to read. My library had each of these ebooks available, so I figured I would reread them. What a difference 10 years makes! On my reread of the books, I couldn’t stand Bella! I couldn’t stand Edward! It seemed like Rosalie and Jacob were the only ones making any sense throughout the story. I could not believe that I had once thought Edward’s creepy behavior was romantic. I did, however, appreciate the details that the books provide that are missing from the movies (which are on constantly replay on certain TV channels . . . and I will still watch . . .)
I’ve taken some time to think about my review of this series. I think this series is a great first read, but it should maybe have a limit on the number of times you reread it. In addition, I think there should be a required minimum age for reading this. I would never want my daughter to read this and think that Bella’s relationships and behavior is acceptable. However, there has to be something said for a unique approach to vampires, and the success of this franchise cannot be understated.
Would I recommend it? This is referenced so much in pop culture that I cannot believe there are people who still haven’t read it. If you haven’t read the series yet, I think it’s worth a read. If you’ve seen the movies, you should absolutely read the books because they are SO much better than the movies! If you haven’t read the books and haven’t seen the movies, you probably aren’t in the target market for this book series and will undoubtedly hate it. It’s cute, it’s fluffy, it’s different, and it will pass the time on your next flight to China.

I definitely felt the same way when I re-read Twilight for the first time as an adult! I remember reading them when I was in high school and I absolutely loved Bella and Edward. By the time I read it a second time I was so confused on how I even thought their relationship was remotely romantic. HAHA Time definitely changes a lot.
