Did I enjoy this book? My favorite author, Colleen Hoover, worked with many other romance authors on this anthology series. This is a series of short stories with the same opening sentence writing prompt: “One more step would mean certain death . . .” I was intrigued by this premise and looked forward to the exposure to other authors. I read this hoping to find another author to obsess over. What I found out was that this book of short stories is LONG. Some of the stories were fascinating, and I loved to see how the different authors took the idea in so many different directions. Unfortunately, there were SO MANY stories that I had a hard time keep everything straight and didn’t actually end up finding a new favorite author as I had hoped.
Would I recommend it? I read this on my kindle, but I actually think I would recommend this as a paper book. This is not a book to just pick up and read cover to cover. I think this would be a great book to read as a prompt when in a reading slump. Read a few stories, find one that you like, then go read some books by that author. Repeat as necessary.
About the book – from Goodreads: Have you ever been curious how a writer’s mind works?
The Bookworm Box is proud to present ONE MORE STEP, an exciting and unique reading experience.
Each of the twenty-six authors featured in this anthology were given the same first sentence. Where they took that first sentence was completely up to them.
Every story is different.
No story is related.
The only thing these stories have in common is their starting point.
All of the authors showcased in this anthology were featured in The Bookworm Box charity during 2019.
Each author has graciously donated their story so that 100% of profits from this anthology will be going to the various charities The Bookworm Box is able to support because of you, the readers.
