Did I enjoy this book: I’m still on my quest to read all of the books written by Colleen Hoover, and this book got me one step closer.
I struggled a bit with this book. I’m not a huge fan of insta-love stories. Admittedly, this isn’t insta-love so much as it is insta-physical infatuation. It seemed like Ms. Hoover wanted Tate to be a strong, independent woman, and she starts off that way. However, her physical infatuation with and emotional attachment to Miles completely undermine what could be an amazing female character. Miles is dark and unavailable and completely honest about who he is. I liked that he was consistently honest about who he was and what he wanted. He didn’t play any games with Tate, which unfortunately continued to undermine the “strong woman” approach to Tate. I found the Miles flashback chapters to be pretty boring at first.
This isn’t my first Colleen Hoover book, so I knew that something big was coming, and boy did she deliver! For as much as I may have thought that the beginning was slow, the ending was exactly what I’ve come to expect from Ms. Hoover and absolutely everything that I wanted it to be. Tate still isn’t my favorite heroine, but Miles and the ending make up for any complaints I may have about Tate.
Would I recommend it: I recommend all of Ms. Hoover’s books and will continue to do so. For this particular book, I would simply encourage the reader to push through any doubts or complaints that you may have. It’s worth it, just keep going. Trust me.
About the book – from Goodreads: When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.
