Did I enjoy this book? Oh my goodness! This book is absolutely the sequel I needed after finishing American Royals! I was so nervous to read this because of how much I enjoyed American Royals. I was afraid the sequel would be disappointing. I’ve never been so glad to be wrong.
I fell in love with these characters in the first book, and I thought they each got the treatment they deserved here. I don’t want to include any spoilers since there were so many unresolved relationships in book 1. What I can safely say is that I wasn’t thrilled with how young and fickle Beatrice and Samantha came across in this book. Beatrice is supposed to be convincing people that she can be an effective monarch even at her young age, and I personally did not believe that’s how she came across. I also didn’t like how little focus there was on Jefferson in both of these books. I feel like he was a seriously underdeveloped character, and I would have liked to learn more about him. Maybe another book in the series?!?
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book, and I couldn’t put it down once I got it. Both books in this series were irresistible, and I can’t recommend them highly enough!
About the book – from Goodreads: Is America ready for its first queen?
Power is intoxicating. Like first love, it can leave you breathless. Princess Beatrice was born with it. Princess Samantha was born with less. Some, like Nina Gonzalez, are pulled into it. And a few will claw their way in. Ahem, we’re looking at you Daphne Deighton.
As America adjusts to the idea of a queen on the throne, Beatrice grapples with everything she lost when she gained the ultimate crown. Samantha is busy living up to her “party princess” persona…and maybe adding a party prince by her side. Nina is trying to avoid the palace–and Prince Jefferson–at all costs. And a dangerous secret threatens to undo all of Daphne’s carefully laid “marry Prince Jefferson” plans.
A new reign has begun….
