Did I enjoy this book? This was my Kindle free book selection for February 2018 (yes, it’s taken me this long to read it). The premise of this book is quite interesting. Emma thought she killed someone years ago, only to find out that he isn’t dead. The book is told from alternating view points and from different points in the timeline. The author tried to establish two of the narrators as unreliable and was mostly successful. The reader starts by sympathizing with Emma, before questioning her sanity both in the past and current timeline. The author also makes it quite easy to hate Luke, before ultimately questioning Emma’s version of events. My only complaints with the book are the length and the usage of the husband and sister. The book is simply too long and the events are drawn out longer than they need to be. I had a hard time picking this up because it seemed to take FOREVER to finish! I didn’t love the husband or the sister in this story. I thought they either needed to be much more useful or more in the background. The way the author wrote these characters, they were more prominent than their story lines supported.
Would I recommend it? For a free book, this was a pretty good suspenseful read. I didn’t find any major plot holes or have any major issues with the main characters. If you love suspenseful books, this would be a good one to try.
About the book – from Goodreads: Emma’s darkest secrets are buried in the past. But the truth can’t stay hidden for long.
Emma is a loving wife, a devoted mother…and an involuntary killer. For years she’s been hiding the dead body of the teacher who seduced her as a teen.
It’s a secret that might have stayed buried if only her life had been less perfect. A promotion for Emma’s husband, Alex, means they can finally move to a bigger home with their young son. But with a buyer lined up for their old house, Emma can’t leave without destroying every last trace of her final revenge…
Returning to the shallow grave in the garden, she finds it empty. The body is gone.
Panicked, Emma confesses to her husband. But this is only the beginning. Soon, Alex will discover things about her he’ll wish he’d learned sooner. And others he’ll long to forget.
