Did I enjoy this book? It seems almost silly for me to write a review for this book because I obviously loved it! Colleen Hoover is a top-notch author, and she has done it again! The characters in this book are so relatable. Sure, you will naturally side with one of them, but she has written them all in such an honest way that you can absolutely empathize with them all. This book is written from both the mother’s and daughter’s perspective, and the mother’s perspective is told both from today’s timeline and flashbacks to her past. Every one of these viewpoints is insightful and leaves you wanting more. I only have one complaint about this book, the treatment of the letters. I can’t reveal any more than that without spoiling things, just know that I’m not happy! Overall, Ms. Hoover has yet another fabulous book to add to her collection.
Would I recommend it? I recommend all of Colleen Hoover’s books, and this one is no different. If I had to force rank her books, this one would not be my favorite. It would rank somewhere in the middle. However, please don’t take that as a knock against this book, I loved it. I just love others even more!
About the book – from Goodreads: From #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us comes a poignant novel about family, first love, grief, and betrayal that will touch the hearts of both mothers and daughters.
Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would like nothing more than to be nothing alike.
Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in her body.
With warring personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to coexist. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris—Morgan’s husband, Clara’s father, and the family anchor. But that peace is shattered when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident. The heartbreaking and long-lasting consequences will reach far beyond just Morgan and Clara.
While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she’s been forbidden to see. With each passing day, new secrets, resentment, and misunderstandings make mother and daughter fall further apart. So far apart, it might be impossible for them to ever fall back together.
