Did I enjoy this book? I couldn’t put this book down! I was very invested in this trilogy and really wanted to see how it ended. The plot of Caraval centered around Scarlett, the plot of Legendary centered around Scarlett’s sister Donatella, and the final installment of the series did a great job of incorporating both sisters and tying up loose ends. In this book, we finally find out why Scarlett thinks of her emotions in colors–this goes from being a minor character detail to a major plot point. I appreciated that the author tied up all the loose ends from the first two books. However, there were many new characters and story arcs introduced and glossed over. As written, this entire series is good. If each book had been double in length and the appropriate amount of time given to the plot and details, it could have been fantastic. This series could have been a great standalone book about the magical Caraval or a fantastic series that includes backstory on the Fates, the Dragna parents, and magic in general. Overall, Finale is a satisfying ending to the Caraval series.
Would I recommend it? Now that I’ve completed the series, I would absolutely recommend it. I would caution the reader to read each book back to back. I read each book as it was published and found it easy to lose track of the characters and where the story left off. If you are looking for a fun story to take you away to a magical land, invest some time and read this trilogy.
About the book – from Goodreads: A love worth fighting for. A dream worth dying for. An ending worth waiting for.
It’s been two months since the Fates were freed from a deck of cards, two months since Legend claimed the throne for his own, and two months since Tella discovered the boy she fell in love with doesn’t really exist.
With lives, empires, and hearts hanging in the balance, Tella must decide if she’s going to trust Legend or a former enemy. After uncovering a secret that upends her life, Scarlett will need to do the impossible. And Legend has a choice to make that will forever change and define him.
Caraval is over, but perhaps the greatest game of all has begun. There are no spectators this time—only those who will win, and those who will lose everything.
Welcome, welcome to Finale. All games must come to an end…
