Did I enjoy this book? I’ve read and enjoyed other books by this author, so naturally I jumped at the chance to read this book. My goodness this was a compelling read!! Reading this book reminded me of watching Steven Spielberg movies–picture the raptor/kitchen scene in Jurassic Park or most of the shark scenes from Jaws. Nothing bad actually happens in those scenes, and in Jaws, you can’t actually see the shark for most of the movie! This book was similar in that nothing bad actually happened for most of the story, but my goodness I was still terrified throughout! It has been a week since I finished this book, and I woke up last night from a dead sleep and thought, “It was red” (one of the last lines in the story), and I couldn’t go back to sleep! Perhaps this is more my overactive imagination, but this story really got me. W.O.W.
Would I recommend it? Reader beware! This story is scary! It’s not gory, it’s not gross, no supernatural scariness–it’s just plain scary! If you like psychological thrillers, you absolutely must read this! It was captivating from beginning to end.
About the book – from Goodreads: Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace: he has looks and wealth, she has charm and elegance. You’d like to get to know Grace better. But it’s difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are never apart. Some might call this true love.
Picture this: a dinner party at their perfect home, the conversation and wine flowing. They appear to be in their element while entertaining. And Grace’s friends are eager to reciprocate with lunch the following week. Grace wants to go, but knows she never will. Her friends call—so why doesn’t Grace ever answer the phone? And how can she cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim?
And why are there bars on one of the bedroom windows?
The perfect marriage? Or the perfect lie?
