Did I enjoy this book: Yes. I’ve heard for years that I should read the series and I’m really glad I finally decided to. Book 1 – Outlander was a bit slow in the beginning and it took me about two weeks to become fully invested in the book.
I felt that the author went a little overboard with her descriptions of the settings (how many times did we have to read about the heather?) but overall, it was more about the characters for me anyway. It was a fantasy that I think most of us will admit to having–the chance to fall back into time and live it. And Claire got to do that.
Would I recommend it: Yes. This is a series that will engage your imagination and leave you poised to purchase the next book immediately.
About the book – from Goodreads: The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of Our Lord…1743.
Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire—and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

I enjoyed it also and in some of the books in the series it does get slow here and there but still worth the effort to read and it will be enjoyable. I am now on the 5th in series and I am addicted to the show. I hope you continue to read on!
