Why did I pick this book: I participated in the blog tour hosted by I Am a Reader Not a Writer(I received a copy of this book for review purposes.)

Did I enjoy this book: I did enjoy this book. The stories were each quick reads that left you with a happy, feel good feeling when you were finished. This was a great, fast read for the holidays.

Pretty Nearly Perfect was cute. I like it a lot. Norah was brave and strong and had such courage to go to her fiance’s parents’ home when it had to have been so tough for her. Collin was sweet and not so good with the spoken word despite being a talented writer.

Six Days of Christmas was a sweet story that made me smile. Natalie is the career-driven, by-the-book girl who doesn’t do well with spontaneity. Grant is the same as Natalie, concerned about his career and professional life. Janessa, Natalie’s best friend, can see what is happening with Natalie and Grant. Sometimes the best friend truly knows best. Jimmy, Janessa’s little brother, has harbored a long-time crush on Natalie. He is the opposite of Natalie in that he takes chances and tries to have fun all of the time. He brings out a better side of Natalie.

Twist of Fate was my least favorite of the three stories but still a sweet story. I just didn’t connect with the characters.

About the book:

Pretty Near Perfect
written by Jolene Perry

The last thing Norah needs is to be attracted to anyone – especially in her deceased fiancé’s parents’ home. Collin’s starting a new career, and has no business getting involved – especially while staying with his roommate’s family, who very kindly offered to take him in for the holidays. Unfortunately, you just don’t always pick the most convenient time and place to fall for someone.

Six Days of Christmas
written by Kaylee Baldwin

When Natalie goes home with her best friend for Christmas, she expects plenty of quiet time to work on a winning ad so she can turn her dream internship into her dream job. Instead, she gets time-consuming Christmas festivities, a house full of children, and Jimmy, her best friend’s brother – someone who makes her question everything she’s always thought she wanted.

Twist of Fate
written by Rachael Anderson

When a postcard meant for Kenzie winds up in Ty’s mailbox, Ty’s faced with a decision. Should he tell her that her fiancé is breaking up with her and let it ruin her favorite holiday, or should he do what he’s wanted to do since he met her – make a move and hope that he can win her over before she discovers there won’t be a wedding after all.

Every Free Chance Book Reviews would like to welcome Rachael Anderson, author of Twist of Fate, to the blog today! She has written the following guest post for all of you.

Short Story Vs. Full Length Novel

When first presented with the prospect of writing a novella, I was both excited and nervous about keeping it short. Would I be able to develop the characters and relationships well enough in so few pages? Would it read too rushed? Would it be one of those novellas that people read and think, “Where’s the rest?” All I could do was try and pray that I could pull it off.

I knew from the get-go that I wanted my characters to already know each other and to start off being good friends. That way, I wouldn’t have to develop a friendship–just the romance. I also didn’t want a lot of extra characters involved so I could keep the story focused on the two main characters and their love connection. All said and done, I think I had 2-3 scenes where the 2 main characters weren’t together, and because of that, it actually turned out to be a really fun book to write. (LOVE those romantic, tension-filled scenes.) The best part of all is that no one can ever accuse me of dragging the conflict out too long. 🙂

joleneperryAbout author Jolene Perry: Jolene Perry is an enigmatic figure. She is most often seen behind her laptop, staring at the words flying onto the screen with reckless abandon.

She survived growing up in rural Alaska, driving like a lunatic, and her husband’s careers in the military, as a perpetual student, and an Alaska State Prosecutor. She also survived as a middle school math teacher using her degree of Political Science and French.

One day Jolene was playing her guitar (probably some-thing juvenile for her kids) when she wondered what it would be like to write a song for a rockstar, and her first book was born. (that book is shelved)

She now lives a very glamorous life as a stay-at-home mom, elbow deep in dirty dishes and peanut butter sandwiches. She doesn’t even attempt to keep up with the laundry because non-writing time is precious, and her family is sorta awesome.
