Why did I pick this book: I participated in the blog tour hosted by CLP Blog Tours. (I received a copy of this book for review purposes.)
Did I enjoy this book: I did enjoy this book. It was a quick read that had me guessing throughout. I read Reckless Abandon every free chance I had.
Shaw McLeary lives out a crime drama in this fast-paced, suspense novella. Shaw was an interesting character – sometimes she didn’t seem very aware of what was going on around her, while at other times, she was quick on the uptake. I liked Shaw. I wanted it all to work out for her in the best possible way. I didn’t want to believe the possible worst-case scenarios.
JJ was amazingly helpful to his ex. I was surprised at the lengths he went to help Shaw find her missing husband. He seems like a loyal person. I enjoyed his bluntness with his theories. He is also hiding something. It was fun to watch these two slide easily back into their old habits and comfortableness with each other.
There were plenty of moments where I thought I had this story figured out. And most of the time I was wrong. It was fun to come up with the different theories. I won’t share my theories with you but I was right on one of them.
I could say so much more about this book but I won’t because I don’t want to spoil it for any of you. Get the book. Read it.
Would I recommend it: I would recommend this book, especially if you enjoy fast-paced, suspense reads.
Will I read it again: I will not, but I am so hoping there will be a sequel!
About the book – from Goodreads: How far would you go for love? Young Adult fiction Author, Shaw McLeary, returns from Whole Foods to discover her husband, Danny, is gone. So is their stash of cash, his clothes, passport, and her wedding rings. He took off in a hurry and left her behind. While trying to piece it all together Shaw witnesses a cop’s murder in her home. Determined not to become the next victim, she flees. She fears dirty cops are involved in Danny’s disappearance. There’s only one person she can trust to help her – JJ Anderson, Private Investigator. Also, her ex-fiancé.
A retired Phoenix cop turned PI, Shaw hopes JJ will be inclined to take her case. Despite his resentment for how their relationship ended, he agrees to help her track down leads on Danny. They chase the clues from Phoenix to Manhattan to upstate New York. In such close quarters Shaw finds it difficult to maintain a professional distance from her first real love. Then what happens if she finds Danny? Can she still love a man who abandoned her or is she too drawn to fixing her past mistake to let go of JJ again?
