Did I enjoy this book? I struggled to get into this book because I didn’t immediately realize that it was book 2 of a series, and I hadn’t read book 1. Once I accepted that the characters had backgrounds that would have been explained in book 1, I was better able to move forward with the story. This book has a pretty unbelievable plot, even after you understand the general premise of the first book. Two guys, best friends, are somehow young and wealthy enough to turn their back on the business world and open a gym together. When looking for a partner (because they aren’t wealthy enough on their own?), they somehow get into a touchy situation that requires one of them to be engaged. Since he’s not, he makes up an engagement to his friend’s sister.
This story is told from both his and her viewpoints. Drama ensues, and they end up falling for each other. This was a very cheesy romance novel with a completely unrealistic plot. But if you are looking for a light read, this would fit the bill.
Would I recommend it? If you are looking for a mindless read to fill some time, this would definitely fit that. Though I haven’t read the first book, I would probably recommend reading that first since it definitely provided some background that would have been helpful. This book is not a great masterpiece, but it was a good brain-break.
About the book – from Goodreads: Boss babe. Ice Queen.
That’s what they call me at the office.
But there’s one man who has secretly melted me for years.
Kaede McWarren.
The only problem? He’s my big brother’s best friend.
But when he asks me to play his fiancée to seal a business deal?
Oh, I’m taking this gift horse and riding it while I can.
He’s got the whole tall, handsome, and intense thing down pat… with a side of quiet mystery and sexy brains to boot.
He’s everything I want. Everything I need.
It should be easy—a business arrangement between two Type-A workaholics. A few dinner dates here, a few kisses there, and none will be the wiser.
But if his business partner finds out it’s fake, he’s screwed. And if my brother finds out it’s real, he might be dead.
There are a hundred ways to lose, but when I’m in his arms, I feel like I’ve already won.
My Big Fat Fake Engagement is a full-length romance with a happily ever after and no cliffhanger.
