Did I enjoy this book? I admit that I am still new to Netflix. However, I saw that this was made into a TV series for Netflix and was originally a book series. On top of that, I recently read a different book by this author and enjoyed it, so naturally, I had to read this series!! I am pleased to report that this did not disappoint. I’ll be honest, I enjoy the fantasy genre, so reading a book about people with magical powers is right up my alley. I thought the world building here was great, and I loved that the magical powers were categories and contained. You don’t have to worry about people showing up with all kinds of weird powers. There is just a set few types, and that’s it. What a relief! This series leans heavily on Russian influence, so some of the words and names were difficult for me to say, but I eventually got used to it. Yes, it is also a bit formulaic. There is a young female heroine who has to save the world, a love triangle, betrayal, redemption, etc. I enjoyed the book so much I didn’t even notice this until writing the review! I enjoyed every minute of this read, and I cannot wait to watch the show!
Would I recommend it? I would absolutely recommend this book series!
About the book – from Goodreads: In a lavish world where darkness reigns and science collides with superstition, Alina Starkov has the power to save her country…but it comes with a price in The Grisha Trilogy by New York Times-bestselling author Leigh Bardugo.
Included in this bundle are Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, and Ruin and Rising.
