Did I enjoy this book? Full disclosure: I was in a reading slump. I just didn’t know what to read and nothing really held my interest. I decided to do a reread of a book that I knew I enjoyed. Now if you read my individual reviews of the books in the Throne of Glass series, you’ll remember that I didn’t care for the earlier books but liked each subsequent book better than the last. Since I absolutely LOVED the final book in the series, I decided to give the earlier books a second chance. I am SO GLAD that I did!!!

I loved all the books even more on my reread! In fairness, I still liked each book more than the last, but I feel like I started from a much more positive place. I also made sure that I started with the prequel books, not book #1. This really helped set the scene for the entire series. On my first read, I remember wondering who Sam was and why he wasn’t in the books if he was such an important character. I get it now! Also, in the middle books there were characters that seemed to appear out of thin air. This frustrated me on my first read, but I get it now!! The author has created a wonderful world, and I’m so glad I decided to reread these books.

Would I recommend it? I absolutely recommend this series, and I strongly encourage you to start by reading the prequel books before book #1. If you are someone who reads to escape the world around them, this is the PERFECT series for you!

About the book – from Goodreads: When magic has gone from the world, and a vicious king rules from his throne of glass, an assassin comes to the castle. She does not come to kill, but to win her freedom. If she can defeat twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition to find the greatest assassin in the land, she will become the king’s champion and earn her freedom. Her name is Celaena Sardothien – beautiful, deadly, and destined for greatness.

But as dark forces gather on the horizon-forces which threaten to destroy her entire world-Celaena must fight to protect everything she holds dear, thrusting her into the epic, heart-stopping fantasy series that has turned #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas into a worldwide phenomenon.
