Did I enjoy this book? I was in a reading slump, so I decided to reread the Divergent series (the movies were on TV a lot recently . . . can you blame me??) I also hadn’t realized that there were a number of novellas detailing Four’s backstory, so I read those for the first time as well. Overall, I enjoyed this series, and I think the books are infinitely better than the movies. I thought reading the Four novellas before starting Divergent again was perfect. Since I already knew the plot, the novellas were very insightful. I loved rereading the books and picking up on details I may have missed the first time around. Admittedly, I am one of the people who hates the ending to Allegiant. I read the first page of the book and immediately got upset about the ending I knew was coming. Haha!! Even knowing what was coming, I was still able to enjoy the story, and this helped break me out of my slump!!
Would I recommend it? I always recommend the Divergent series. I think it’s a great read. Even though the Four novellas were written as prequels, I still think I would recommend reading them AFTER Divergent and Insurgent. I’m afraid that reading them first might spoil some of the plot points that should come as a surprise. I actually stopped reading Divergent after the knife-throwing scene and immediately read the Four version, then picked up Divergent again. Probably not absolutely necessary, but I thought it was good to have an immediate comparison. If you haven’t read this series yet, or if the movies have scared you away, please give the books a chance!!
