Did I enjoy this book? I really did! It kept me reading every free chance I had, and I read the last 150 pages in one sitting.
American Royals was a fun read about what America could have looked like if George Washington had become king instead of president. It had multiple points of view, which I enjoyed. I love getting into the minds of more than one character. We heard from Beatrice, Samantha, Nina, and Daphne. Each character has her own voice, so you won’t get confused as to whose POV you are reading. They each have their own struggles as well. I definitely had favorite characters. However, the story did remind me very much of the British royal family and history. There were quite a few similar story lines, some too similar. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed reading this story, but I wish it had been more unique.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. And I already pre-ordered book two, Majesty.
About the book – from Goodreads: What if America had a royal family?
When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne.
As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America’s first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling.
Nobody cares about the spare except when she’s breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn’t care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her.
And then there’s Samantha’s twin, Prince Jefferson. If he’d been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.
