Did I enjoy this movie? I really enjoyed this new version of Aladdin!! I grew up in the 90s, and I am a HUGE Disney fan, so I was a bit nervous when this movie was announced. Thinking back on the recent remakes Disney has done, I’ve only liked about half of them, so I was prepared for the worst with this one. I loved the slightly updated storyline (no longer does Jasmine just want to marry for love, she wants to be the Sultan), I enjoyed the fresh take on the classic songs, and I was OK with the addition of the new songs. I thought Will Smith did a fantastic job as the Genie and made the character relevant in 2019. I also liked the addition of Jasmine’s handmaiden as a character, since they couldn’t make Raja as opinionated. This movie will never replace the cartoon classic, but I think it is an excellent addition, and my family will be watching it again and again.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely! Did you love the cartoon? You will appreciate all the nods to the original and the updates to the plot. Did you hate the cartoon? You will like the subtle changes and the fantastic Disney musical numbers. You’ve never seen the cartoon? WATCH THEM BOTH RIGHT NOW!
