Did I enjoy this book? The idea of this book is so promising! A small group of people develop a compound that can stop the process of aging–granting the recipient immortality. After deliberation, they decide that they cannot publish their findings nor sell it to any major pharmaceutical company. Instead, they find a reclusive billionaire who agrees to divide her fortune equally among them all in exchange for immortality. This is the premise established in chapter 1. You essentially just have to accept the idea of immortality and this extremely odd financial situation. I’m OK with accepting the immortality discovery, but the idea that this billionaire would simply divide up her fortune seems too bizarre. The book just gets more unbelievable from there. There are ex-CIA agents, security people posing as CIA agents, a strange identity swap plot, underscored by political aspirations and an unlikely romance. The author took a great idea, applied unlikable characters and unbelievable situations, and turned this story into one where I was rooting for all the characters to be killed off. Such a disappointment!

Would I recommend it? I kept reading this book because I simultaneously couldn’t believe that a story idea this good could turn into a book so bad, and because I needed to know who the end culprit was. Ultimately I would not recommend this book, but I would love it if a different author would take this idea and write a better book!

About the book – from Goodreads: There’s a secret in Silicon Valley. A discovery. An invention. One so startling and surprisingly sinister that it needs to be kept—at any price.

Tim Tigner takes a step back from his bestselling Kyle Achilles series to introduce Zachary Chase and Skylar Fawkes in a fresh standalone novel that’s bound to keep you glued and guessing. With secluded meetings, sudden disappearances and strange murders; secret agents, skillful assassins and sexy locations; The Price of Time is packed with fast-paced action and first-class intellectual intrigue.

Propelling the thrills and perched at the middle of the mystery is one of humanity’s great questions: Would finding the Fountain of Youth be a blessing?

Prepare for sleep-deprived nights and skipped chores while repeating the phrase: “Just one more page.”
