Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book. I chose to read and review it. The opinions are my own.

Did I enjoy this book? I did enjoy this book. It isn’t a genre I usually read, YA gothic/horror, but I wanted to try something different. And I’m glad I did.

House of Furies was a slow read; it took me a while to get into the story each time I picked up the book. But once I was in, I didn’t want to put it down. I was fascinated by Coldthistle House and its occupants. But I was also creeped out by it and them. There were a few times I had to put the book down and walk away, read something else, and yet I still came back for more. There is still more to figure out, so I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, Court of Shadows. I have to see what happens next.

Would I recommend it? I would if you are looking for a creepy YA novel.

About the book – from Goodreads: After escaping a harsh school where punishment was the lesson of the day, seventeen-year-old Louisa Ditton is thrilled to find employment as a maid at a boarding house. But soon after her arrival at Coldthistle House, Louisa begins to realize that the house’s mysterious owner, Mr. Morningside, is providing much more than lodging for his guests. Far from a place of rest, the house is a place of judgment, and Mr. Morningside and his unusual staff are meant to execute their own justice on those who are past being saved.

Louisa begins to fear for a young man named Lee who is not like the other guests. He is charismatic and kind, and Louisa knows that it may be up to her to save him from an untimely judgment. But in this house of distortions and lies, how can Louisa be sure whom to trust?

I’m also a hit or miss with YA horror/gothic. It’s usually because it’s not scary enough for me haha. Great review!
