Did I enjoy this book? Loved this book! I love Colleen Hoover’s books. I’ll be honest, I think I liked this one the least of her books, but I still loved it. (It’s like pizza–even bad pizza is still pretty great!) I like that this had a strong female character and an equally strong male character. Bringing in the element of poetry “slams” was unique and I enjoyed it. The female character was pretty immature and that made it hard to relate to her throughout the book. In all fairness, she is a senior in high school, so her maturity level was likely on point.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely! This was a great read and worth every minute.

About the book – from Goodreads: Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she’s losing hope.

Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.

Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart.

I have this sitting on my to read shelf in my bookcase. It’s a ways down in the stack but I might bump it up. I’ve read some of her books and really enjoyed them.
