Did I enjoy this book? I’ll admit it; I liked this book! It wasn’t really what I initially expected it to be, but I liked it nonetheless!
The story takes place in a dystopian future USA (a little over done . . . but OK). The country is now ruled by a monarchy, and it is time for the Prince to get married. To bring the royal family closer to their subjects, they bring one girl from each of the districts to participate in The Selection. This is pretty much the exact opposite of the Hunger Games. Instead of fighting to the death, these girls are essentially on The Bachelor. The thing is I liked the girls that the author included in the plot points, I liked the Prince, I liked America’s family (the main character). Nothing inappropriate happened, no foul language, no bad things. I did get frustrated with America and Maxon at times, but I just reminded myself that they are teenagers and the plot made sense.
This was a very quick read, and I enjoyed myself the entire time.
Would I recommend it? I would! This book was a quick read, and I really liked it!
About the book – from Goodreads: For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself—and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.
