Did I enjoy this book: Yes. I was at first confused when I opened this book. It begins 20 years into the future and Claire’s baby is now a grown woman. For a few chapters I thought I’d bought the wrong book and was reading them out of order–but as I turned pages, it finally made sense. In this book, you learn of Claire’s life once she’s back in her own time and it’s not until her husband dies that Claire is free to dig into history and find out what happened to her true love, Jamie. She and her daughter return to Scotland and engage the assistance of a friend to aid in the search. It’s a great follow-up to the first book and I really enjoyed the story.
Would I recommend it: Yes. As I said, a great follow-up, and while it answers many questions, it leaves just as many on the table. Time for book three!
About the book – from Goodreads: With her now-classic novel Outlander, Diana Gabaldon introduced two unforgettable characters—Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser—delighting readers with a story of adventure and love that spanned two centuries. Now Gabaldon returns to that extraordinary time and place in this vivid, powerful follow-up to Outlander.
DRAGONFLY IN AMBER
For nearly twenty years Claire Randall has kept her secrets. But now she is returning with her grown daughter to Scotland’s majestic mist-shrouded hills. Here Claire plans to reveal a truth as stunning as the events that gave it birth: about the mystery of an ancient circle of standing stones… about a love that transcends the boundaries of time… and about Jamie Fraser, a Scottish warrior whose gallantry once drew a young Claire from the security of her century to the dangers of his.
Now a legacy of blood and desire will test her beautiful copper-haired daughter, Brianna, as Claire’s spellbinding journey of self-discovery continues in the intrigue-ridden Paris court of Charles Stuart… in a race to thwart a doomed Highlands uprising… and in a desperate fight to save both the child and the man she loves.
