Did I enjoy this book: I really did! This is another selection for the Fall Reading Challenge that has kept me turning pages. I read Everything We Keep every free chance I had.
Aimee and James were childhood friends, high school sweethearts, and engaged to be married. When tragedy strikes, Aimee has to pull herself up and move on with her life after James is killed on a business trip. But the twists and turns that followed kept me reading. Some things I guessed, some things I was surprised by, and some things left me with more questions than answers. There were some scenes and instances that didn’t quite fit with the story for me, but those scenes weren’t enough to make me stop reading or stop enjoying this read. Ian was a sweetheart, but I think there is way more to his story. Laney/Lucy/Lacy is still a question mark for me. Was she just a means to an end or does she play a bigger role in the next book? The end left me a bit heartbroken. But not for who you may think from reading this review. (I’m not going to spoil the story or the ending.)
Would I recommend it: I would! I can’t wait for the next book!
About the book – from Goodreads: A luminous debut with unexpected twists, Everything We Keep explores the devastation of loss, the euphoria of finding love again, and the pulse-racing repercussions of discovering the truth about the ones we hold dear and the lengths they will go to protect us.
Sous chef Aimee Tierney has the perfect recipe for the perfect life: marry her childhood sweetheart, raise a family, and buy out her parents’ restaurant. But when her fiancé, James Donato, vanishes in a boating accident, her well-baked future is swept out to sea. Instead of walking down the aisle on their wedding day, Aimee is at James’s funeral—a funeral that leaves her more unsettled than at peace.
As Aimee struggles to reconstruct her life, she delves deeper into James’s disappearance. What she uncovers is an ocean of secrets that make her question everything about the life they built together. And just below the surface is a truth that may set Aimee free…or shatter her forever.
