Why did I pick this book: I participated in the blog tour hosted by AToMR Tours. (I received a copy of this book for review purposes.)
Did I enjoy this book: I did enjoy this book. It was a quick read that had me hooked. I read every free chance I had and finished it in a day.
Kyra is a young woman with a past that she has moved beyond in the last year. She is making better choices and gaining more responsibility and trust from her family even though she doesn’t think she deserves that trust. But she is slowly starting to believe she deserves it though. Kyra gets a once in a lifetime chance to go on tour with the most popular boy band out there, and even though she doesn’t trust herself, she takes the opportunity. Kyra learns a lot about herself and others while on this tour. She is there for the band and the documentary crew. She steps in on many occasions almost as an advisor or manager. Those moments were a bit hard to believe but they worked. Her ending was fantastic. I was very proud of her and what she accomplished with her interview.
Zach, the band’s lead singer, is struggling with the fame. He wants to do right by his fans and his bandmates (who are also his brother and cousin). He needs a friend and finds that in Kyra. He seems like a genuinely good guy. He doesn’t want scandal or drama. Ben, the band’s troublemaker, is lost. I wish he would have found his way but that wouldn’t have been all that believable because so many child stars don’t find their way. He is childish and a bit vindictive. I wanted to like him, but I couldn’t.
I enjoyed Break It Up as a spinoff to Someone Else’s Fairytale and Nobody’s Damsel. I loved both of those books. It is always fun to read about other characters in series that I have enjoyed. I enjoy getting to know those secondary characters. It makes the picture more complete for me. Did I think this book was as good as those? Not really, but pretty close. I want to read more about all of these characters, that’s for sure!
Would I recommend it: I would recommend this book. It is a good “it’s never to late to make a change” book.
Will I read it again: I’m not sure. But Ms. Tippetts is on my must-read author list!
About the book: Kyra Armijo is making a few changes in her life. One of them being, she’s no longer going to give it up to every guy who looks at her twice. And she’s putting her hopes and dreams for her future first. When the aspiring photojournalist gets the opportunity of a lifetime to tag along with international boy band sensation, Triple Cross, she can’t pass up the chance.
The only problem is that she’s in love with one band member, dodging the unwanted attention of another, and desperate to keep her turbulent past under wraps. Triple Cross have “nice guy” appeal, approved of by parents the world over, but have just let go their longtime manager, who controlled their clean image and media exposure with an iron fist. When Zach Wechsler, the object of Kyra’s affection, begins to show interest, she has to be careful.
Surely one girl can’t destroy a band that’s been together for ten years… only what if she can? Kyra knows she’s one bad decision away from ruining everything she’s worked for, and taking the hottest act of her generation down with her.
