Why did I pick this book: I read and loved Fall For You by this author. When she gave me the chance to review book 2 in this series, I jumped at the opportunity. (I received a copy of this book for review purposes.)
Did I enjoy this book: I did enjoy this book. It was a quick read that took less than a day. I read every free chance I had.
Full disclosure, I have not read Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. (I know, I should be ashamed of myself. It is on my to-read list!) Even though I committed that small travesty, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thought the story moved at a nice pace and it was refreshing that the story wasn’t all-consumed with teen romance and angst. I found the interactions between the characters to be realistic.
The characters were well-written. The reader gets engrossed in their lives and wants to know what happens to them. (At least this reader did!) Ellie finds her inner strength and an unlikely ally in the new Headmistress of the Jane Austen Academy. Emma turns out to be a great friend. Lizzie was kind of aloof in this book – unlike in Fall For You. She just didn’t seem like she cared all that much about what was happening to her so-called best friend, Ellie. Edward, a typical guy, so conflicted but he seems genuine and pretty good.
I can’t wait for book three to be released!
Would I recommend it: I would recommend this book, especially if you are a Jane Austen fan and enjoy light, quick reads.
Will I read it again: I probably will not but I will be anxiously awaiting the next books in The Jane Austen Academy series!
About the book – from Goodreads: Modern retelling/based on Sense & Sensibility.
The last thing that the girls at the elite Jane Austen Academy need is guys. But over the summer the school has been sold, and like it or not, the guys are coming. And they’re about to turn the Academy—and the lives of its students—totally upside down…
Meet sweet and sensible Ellie who hasn’t met a problem her mom’s yoga mantras can’t fix. But when her parents threaten to pull her from the Academy just as her flirtation with the cutest boy in school heats up, will Ellie be able to keep her cool?
