Why did I pick this book: I participated in the blog tour hosted by Xpresso Book Tours(I received a copy of this book for review purposes.)

Did I enjoy this book:
I did enjoy this book. I read it every free chance I had. The last quarter of this book had me grinning and giggling like a young in-love person.

Attempting Elizabeth is a unique story and a new twist on the retelling of a beloved (my favorite) classic. Ms. Grey does a good job creating a different perspective on a book most love. I really enjoyed seeing Kelsey in the minds of some of the lesser known, less respected characters of Pride & Prejudice. That is what really stood out to me. That is what made this story different. Besides, of course, being able to jump into your favorite novel and live as one of the characters. Seriously, how awesome would that be? Come on, you know you’ve thought about it.

Anyway, this was a fun read that will leave you with a smile on your face and flutter in your heart.

Would I recommend it: I would recommend this to any Pride & Prejudice retelling fan. Please be aware that there are some mistakes (wrong words, extra words, etc.) here and there. I’m not sure if my copy was an ARC; however, I didn’t see any designation of it being one.

Will I read it again: I will not. If there is a sequel though, I will definitely read that.

About the book:
Kelsey Edmundson is a geek and proud of it. She makes no secret of her love for TV, movies, and, most especially, books. After a bad breakup, she retreats into her favorite novel, Pride and Prejudice, wishing she had some of the wit and spirit of Elizabeth Bennett.

One night at a party Kelsey meets handsome Australian bartender Mark Barnes. From then on, she always seems to run into him when she least expects it. No matter how Kelsey tries, she always seems to say the wrong thing.

After a particularly gaffe-filled evening around Mark, Kelsey is in desperate need of inspiration from Jane Austen. She falls asleep reading Darcy’s letter to Lizzy and awakens to find herself in an unfamiliar place that looks and sounds suspiciously like her favorite book. Has she somehow been transported into Pride and Prejudice, or is it just a dream?

As Kelsey tries to discover what’s happening to her, she must also discover her own heart. Is Mark Barnes destined to be her Mr. Darcy? In the end, she must decide whether attempting to become Elizabeth is worth the risk or if being Kelsey Edmundson is enough.

  1. Glad you liked it! Thanks for being on the tour! 🙂

  2. Thank you for the lovely review! I’m glad you enjoyed Attempting Elizabeth. I thought looking through the eyes of those minor characters was fun and I’m glad that stood out to you!

    • I really did enjoy those parts. We always read retellings and sequels and “companion” books to P&P but they are usually about Elizabeth or Mr. Darcy. I like looking at the story from the other characters’ perspectives. It makes it all the more interesting. Thanks for the chance to read a great new book.
