Book Blogger Hop – March 9 – 15, 2018

About the Book Blogger Hop

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer from Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the meme on February 15, 2013.

Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This week’s question:

Do you enjoy reading retellings of, or ‘sequels’ to, classic novels? Why or why not? (submitted by Maria @ A Night’s Dream of Books)

I do . . . if they are done well. I love reading another author’s take on a classic, and I like to read what an author thinks happened after the final chapter of the original. I loved the Wendy Darling series by Colleen Oakes. It was a great retelling of Peter Pan. I enjoyed the different perspective.

What is your favorite retelling or classic novel sequel?

I love fairy tale retellings but have had a dicey history with classic retelling. I had trouble with the Peter Pan retelling you mentioned because I realized I didn’t want to the story to change at all! Though come to think about it maybe that wasn’t the best choice to try for a retelling.

I love fairy tale retellings too. I like when they tell it from a different angle or from a different character’s POV. The Wendy Darling series is definitely a different take.

I must admit, I don’t think I’ve heard of The Wendy Darling series! I wasn’t a huge fan of the original Peter Pan story but I did love Lost Boy by Christina Henry which was a dark retelling. I’ll have to research it!

I’m a new follower on twitter and email! I can’t wait to read more!

I don’t remember the original Peter Pan, I really liked the Wendy Darling series . . . the second and third books especially. I’ll have to check out Lost Boy.

Thank you for following me! =)

I have been introduced to some recent retellings. I’m about to start a Romeo and Juliet retelling that sounds so fun!
