Did I enjoy this book? Since I overcame all of my prejudices when I read Red Queen, I was better prepared to read Glass Sword. Because this is book two of a series, I’m hesitant to go too far into the plot–I don’t want to ruin Red Queen for you! All the characters are back, doing all the things you expected them to do after you finished reading Red Queen. This book was a little predictable, but to be honest, I wanted it to be. I wanted them to be doing the things that they do, and I knew that the bad guys were going to do the things they did. Having this knowledge didn’t taint the book for me at all. I probably would have been more upset if the author hadn’t taken this where she did. Overall, this was a good second book.

Would I recommend it? If you read Red Queen, you kind of have to read Glass Sword. The story feels incomplete without it. My only regret is that my library does not currently carry the third book in the series. Book 2 ends in a bit of a cliffhanger and I’m stuck waiting to find out what happens! Ahh! Not to mention the fact that it’s actually a FOUR book series . . . and the fourth book won’t be published until May 2018! I’m hoping my library gets book 3 before book 4 is published . . .

About the book – from Goodreads: If there’s one thing Mare Barrow knows, it’s that she’s different.

Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.

The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.

But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.

Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

The electrifying next installment in the Red Queen series escalates the struggle between the growing rebel army and the blood-segregated world they’ve always known—and pits Mare against the darkness that has grown in her soul.
