Book Blogger Hop – January 19 – 25, 2018

About the Book Blogger Hop

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer from Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer relaunched the meme on February 15, 2013.

Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This week’s question:

When reading a mass paperback book, many people fold the cover back, as if they were reading a magazine. Doing this will eventually create creases in the spine. How do you feel about this common bookish habit? (submitted by Maria @ A Night’s Dream of Books)

I have folded back the cover on a paperback that I own (never to a borrowed book). I don’t do it all the time; it depends on my mood and what I’m doing. How other people read their books is up to them. It’s their book. 🙂 Personally, I like books with a creased spine . . . they look well loved and read.

What about you? How do you feel about people folding back the cover of a paperback book?

I completely agree! I bend mine back if it’s more comfortable while reading.

I can’t stand it when someone folds back the cover of a paperback! It’s like theu have no respect for the book or the author who spent all that time writing the book. It also ruins the book, books can be read by others, they aren’t disposable.

I don’t see it as disrespectful to the author at all. The person bought their book and is reading it. I don’t see it as ruining the book either; a crease in the spine doesn’t mean the book is unreadable.

Honestly I don’t care. I think it’s ok as long and you are reading.

I will if it won’t stay open and I try to only do it in the middle .My books are mine to keep..I share but I don’t mind if the covers folded a bit if it makes it easier to read.

I agree! The books are yours and you can do what you want with them. Sometimes you have to bend it to get it to stay open.

I do fold the cover back, but is is few and far between. I noticed I do it more at school when I’m reading aloud to my students.

I don’t fold it back all the time, but sometimes. I can see how it would be easier when you’re reading to your class.
