Did I enjoy this book: I did, but I think it’s because I wanted more Harry Potter. It wasn’t the best of stories. They could have made it so much better and so much more. However, for what it was, it was a decent post “19 Years Later” tale that kept me reading. I did put it down for a few days a few times. It wasn’t an every free chance read.

I liked the house Albus Severus was sorted into and some of the friends he made. I liked the interactions between the adults and their love for their children. The story was different and unexpected. It just didn’t have the same feel as my beloved HP books. The characters weren’t what I expected. They were different and didn’t quite fit their original personalities. And while I know people change as they get older, these characters were just so very different that they barely resembled their former selves.

3 stars

Would I recommend it: If you are a die-hard fan, yes, read it. If you haven’t read Harry Potter, read the original series and skip this “installment.”

About the book – from Goodreads:
Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, a new play by Jack Thorne, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The play will receive its world premiere in London’s West End on July 30, 2016.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

I am so happy to hear that someone else didn’t love this book. I rated it 2 stars, and my review will be up on Opinionated Book Lover on Sunday. I agree about the characters being different – not right at all. I was expecting more Rowling magic, and it’s just not. Because she didn’t write it.

Exactly! It wasn’t her magic. It wasn’t her writing. The characters were just off. I’ll check out your review on Sunday!
