Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange  for an honest review.

Did I enjoy this book:
I was going through an “I hate everything on TV, but I don’t have the brain power to read anything intense” phase last week (it’s the holiday season . . . I’m sure you can relate), so I skipped around on my TBR list until I found this — the second installment in Derrolyn Anderson’s Athena Effect series. Perfect!

I loved the first book in the series (you can read my review HERE), and with three more books in the docket, I figured The Athena Effect books would be just the thing to get me through the holiday madness. Anderson manages to keep Cal and Cal’s love story both fresh and complex, and just when I was getting a little sick of all the lovey-dovey business, Anderson pivots the story in an interesting new direction.

There were a few grammatical issues and a few editing misses but nothing big enough to derail or distract. The Mackenzie Legacy is a great second book, and I’m mere moments away from starting book three — The Caledonian Inheritance.

GOLDEN LINE(S)

“They’re all dead,” Michael said, helping his terrified sister into the truck. “We have to get out of here.”

Would I recommend it: You bet! If you liked the first book, you’ll enjoy this one too.

About the book – from Goodreads:
As their story continues, Calvin and Caledonia find themselves madly in love, on the run, and nearly out of money. When Cal stumbles upon a way to cash in on Cali’s powers, their life on the road becomes a life of leisure. Despite the easy money and newfound luxury, Caledonia’s conscience begins to trouble her.

A disturbing warning only serves to confirm her misgivings, making her question her purpose in life. Finally, a shocking discovery about the true nature of her powers points the way forward, sending the two Cals on a dangerous rescue mission.

Caledonia tries her best to right the wrongs of the past, but will she only end up provoking new and even more dangerous enemies?

I’m glad to hear the second one keeps the momentum going. I always worry about romances that span over the course of a whole series because they tend to get stale unless the author takes care to add some new elements.
