Did I enjoy this book: I picked this book because I love Ellen Degeneres. She’s hilarious so I knew I’d love the book.

Turns out, I was wrong; not about loving Ellen. That’s impossible. I was wrong about loving the book.

If any other writer in the world sent this pointless, rambling collection of short stories to a publisher, it would land with a sickening thud in the trash heap. Her humor works so well live but is too disjointed and circumlocutory to hold my admittedly short attention span.

I got a few chuckles out of the book but had to work so hard to finally get to them that I was too frustrated to enjoy it. You can watch her for free. If you work, set your DVR. She’s hysterical. But save your money on the book. For me, it just didn’t work.

Would I recommend it: No.

About the book – from Goodreads: “Sometimes the greatest things are the most embarrassing.” Ellen Degeneres’ winning, upbeat candor has made her show one of the most popular, resilient and honored daytime shows on the air. (To date, it has won no fewer than 31 Emmys.) Seriously… I’m Kidding, Degeneres’ first book in eight years, brings us up to date about the life of a kindhearted woman who bowed out of American Idol because she didn’t want to be mean. Lively; hilarious; often sweetly poignant.
