An ancient games of the brave, where contestants can test their limits in flying, riding, and archery.

Fields of Elysium
A YA romantic fantasy

On the south side of the island, a canal allowed boats and yachts to enter the circular bay. As our altitude lowered, I saw uniquely designed ships harbored in the gently swelling sea. One of them looked like a floating tropical beach resort. Others were golden ships with canopies whose white satin fabric flapped in the wind. At the east bay were beached dozens of ancient timber vessels, with bright yellow tents on the decks. People swarmed on the white sandy beach and headed toward the belt of tropical forest vegetation that ringed a flatland. The entire bay seemed to be given over to people coming from various cultures, bringing their own traditions with them.
Gliding toward the center of the island, we approached the arena. Other Araneavis ascended and descended, leaving and arriving at the scene of the games.
Weston wasn’t exaggerating about the number of fans earlier. Three parking garages, in the shape of a beehive and about hundred-stories high, were behind the stadium. The landing platforms were dotted with colorful Araneavis and still more were arriving, like bees flying into their hives.
Enclosed inside the oval arena a twelve-lane racetrack ran along one half of the oval field, while on the other half, a dozen poles in different heights, topped by huge loops, had been erected and were organized in zigzag formation.
Beyond the loops towered the giant golden dragon. The ruby eyes were too small and too far for me to see them, but the spectacular monument sparkling in the diamond sunshine was spellbinding.
“So what do you think?” Weston asked, pointing at the dragon.

“I’m speechless,” I said, feeling the excitement rising in me.

From the Author

I’m a Hungarian born American writer, who was lucky enough to travel Europe, Africa, and The Middle East and live in Ecuador, Crete and Italy. I graduated as a computer engineer, thus if anybody tells you math and literature can’t walk hand in hand, don’t believe them. *smile*

I’m the author of the Fields of Elysium saga, which I like to call a young adult romantic fantasy. The first book of the series was inspired by amazing movies like Dirty Dancing, Avatar, and Twilight and earned praise from prestigious review companies and readers. I’m currently working on book three and four, and planning to write one more novella to finish the series, dedicated to another very interesting character in my story, The Prophet, the mysterious leader of the Arkanians.
