Review: The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson

alloy of lawThe Alloy of Law (Mistborn #4)
written by Brandon Sanderson

Why did I pick this book: I read the first three books in the Mistborn series. See my reviews here: Mistborn: The Final EmpireThe Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages.

Did I enjoy this book: It was everything I loved about the Mistborn Trilogy, but set, unfortunately, in some sort of post-Vin-and-Elend Wild West.  I like Wax and his crew, but I’m not really a fan of gun fights, train robberies, or the classic “Bad Guy Kidnapping Girls for Use in His Evil Scheme” bit.  I suppose it’s an interesting Metallurgic version of the Old West, but it just wasn’t for me.

I’m contemplating the pros and cons of continuing the series.

Would I recommend it: Actually, yes.  Especially if you’ve read the Mistborn Trilogy, would you pretty please read this one and get back to me?  I can’t possibly be the only one who loved the first three books and didn’t really care for this one, can I?

About the book – from Goodreads:
Centuries after the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is on the verge of modernity – railroads, electric street lights, and skyscrapers. Waxillium Ladrian can Push on metals with his Allomancy and use Feruchemy to become lighter or heavier at will. After 20 years in the dusty Roughs, in the city of Elendel, the new head of a noble house may need to keep his guns.

I’m not at all familiar with the author or this series. It doesn’t look like the kind of books I would like :/ Well anyways, hope your next read is better!

Me too! My list is getting a little unwieldy, so there’s bound to be something awesome hiding in the shadows, right? =)

Finally read this. Not going to lie i’m not in love with it. Its not a bad book, its just very average. In his mistborn books (1&3) the scale of the enemy and its impact on the world were enormous. This by comparison felt a bit weak. Almost like it should have been a short story. The characters where also not that great although i did enjoy Marasi. In the intro it said he planned on making two more books in this era and three in a futuristic one. Considering that his biggest strength is worldbuilding (imo) maybe creating more of these books wont be such a bad idea.

You’re right, Fabian… I think I was just so in love with the trilogy my expectations for this one were too high. I agree, though – Sanderson’s worldbuilding is awesome – perhaps I WILL read the next book…
