Why did I pick this book: I had participated in the blog tour hosted by PJ Blog Tours in May 2013. (I received a copy of this book for review purposes.)

Did I enjoy this book:
I’m conflicted about this book.

On one hand, I enjoyed the story. It was a good love story with an interesting twist – that the Greek gods are competing with each to pass the time. A great premise.

I liked Lexi and Dean. Their connection is apparent and seems so right yet it just should not work out between them. Especially with some gods working against them.

On the other hand, the language of the Greek gods really turned me off. I know they are growing with the times, assimilating. But I have a hard time believing that Aphrodite would be calling another god a douchebag and using other modern offensive language.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have sensitive ears or anything like that. My problem is that it just didn’t fit the image in my head at all. In fact, that turned me off and almost made me stop reading the book in the very beginning.

I know this is a fantasy book. But the unbelievable should still be believable. The love story was believable. The competition was believable. The language and over-modernization of the gods was unbelievable for me. If it weren’t for this, I would have rated this book 3 or 3.5 stars. However, because of this turn off right at the outset, I have to rate this book:

everyfree2.5

Would I recommend it: I might recommend this book if you want a quick read with a cute romance but don’t mind steamy sex scenes and some vulgar language. This is not a YA book at all. The sex scenes are a bit too graphic. At the youngest, I would call this a NA book. Definitely 18+.

Will I read it again: I will not.

About the book:
What do the Greek gods do when they’re bored? Because they’re always bored, so humans are the perfect players in their games.

Aphrodite owns love; she hasn’t lost a competition on her turf in over three millennia. Apollo is on a mission to win. He’s counting on it to finally get the one woman he’s never been able to have. The two gods will choose their human players, and if Aphrodite can’t get them together before the clock runs out, Apollo will get his way. And Aphrodite couldn’t have that.

Lex and Dean are perfect for each other, they just don’t know it yet. Dean is a perpetual bachelor, and a brooding, beautiful rock star. Lex is always with a man, but she’ll never fully give herself up. Aphrodite has her work cut out for her, but if she can’t make it work, no one can.

The gods have their own drama. Apollo killed Aprhodite’s mortal love – they’ve got beef that’s been dragging on for thousands of years. Ares, the douchebag, is forever trying to pick a fight, and trying to get Aphrodite into bed. And Persephone, Aphrodite’s best friend, is the one person who Aphrodite shares everything with.

Happy reading wherever you are and whenever you get a free chance!!!
