Why did I pick this book: I participated in the blog tour hosted by Reading Away the Days and Dilly Dally PR(I received a copy of this book for review purposes.)

Did I enjoy this book:
I did.  It’s definitely geared toward the young end of the YA spectrum (the protagonist is 13), but it was a lot of fun.  I remember feeling what Affleck’s characters feel: jealousy of friends who were allowed to wear make-up, confusion about complex emotions, a complete disregard for caloric intake…  She adequately captures a set of friends whose life is on the verge of complication – both hormonal and supernatural.  There isn’t much depth, but then, as my dad says, people are barely conscious until they’re sixteen anyway.  Ultimately, it was a fun way to spend an evening, even if I wasn’t the target audience.

Would I recommend it: If I knew anyone in junior high school, I’d totally recommend it to them.

Will I read it again: No, but if I had a tween daughter I bet she’d read it a few times.

About the book – from Amazon.com:
Unexplained deaths have occurred in the tiny village of Mount Stewart, Prince Edward Island, for more than half a century. Every five years, to be exact, the river claims a victim.
This year, thirteen year old Leigh Kennedy and her friends are destined to die. Can Leigh find out why this has been happening in time to escape their fate?

julie affleckAbout the author: Julie Affleck lives on a small island in Canada called Prince Edward Island. There she raises her four children while desperately searching for time to write! She loves reading kids books to her children. Her favorites are any Robert Munsch books and the Pinkalicious series. She will always find time for Nora Roberts, Karen Robards, Dean Koontz, and Stephen King.

I have a blog I write (foolishness!) on. What I’m working on, what I should/want to be doing in my writing career. My goal is to post once a month so I don’t overload myself or scare me away with another deadline.
