Why did I pick this book: The author, Jen Walker, asked me to review her book and I gladly accepted.

Did I enjoy this book: I did. It was a good story that kept me interested and reading every free chance I had.

When I started reading this book, I thought it was a college-aged chick lit type book – which would not be a bad thing. Then, I thought it was going to be another vampire book – which also would not be a bad thing. BUT this book was refreshing in that it didn’t have a vampire or shapeshifter or anything of that sort. What it centered around was a curse that made a man immortal. I really enjoyed that the curse originated in New Orleans. I sometimes associate voodoo and such with New Orleans. (I really don’t know why, but I do.)

The story flowed and moved, it did not drag. There were parts where I laughed out loud and parts where I was anxious to see what would happen next. All-in-all, it was a good book. With that being said, there were some typos and some repeating of information that wasn’t necessary. However, this did not detract from my enjoyment of this book.

The ending wrapped up fairly quickly. I would have enjoyed an epilogue…I know we are supposed to come to our own conclusion with an ending such as this but because it ended rather fast, a little extra at the end would have finished it up nicely.

I will look forward to another book by this author.

Would I recommend it: I would. It was a quick young adult read that was clean, exciting, and good.

Will I read it again: I’m not sure. While I did enjoy it, I’m not sure it is a book that I will read again.

About the book – MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS: Athena Martin is in Paris for the first time in her life to study abroad. Being from a small town in Oklahoma, Athena is nervous and excited to be in a foreign city by herself. The lights of Paris and the lure of the culture soon captures hers heart as does her professor, Luc Moreau.

Luc Moreau has lived in Paris for many years. He emigrated from the Big Easy – New Orleans – to get away from his past…a past that doesn’t leave him. Luc is cursed and anyone he gets close to usually ends up dead. However, Luc is enchanted by Athena, so much so that he wants a relationship with her but doesn’t want to risk losing her forever.

When Luc tries to protect Athena, her independence (and aversion to male chivalry) threatens her life and Luc’s. What will happen to these two lovers? Will the curse be lifted?

Happy reading wherever you are and whenever you get a free chance!!!
